Service

File and printer sharing for Microsoft networks - Enables files and printers sharing in the networks with servers and computers with Microsoft operating system

Identifications

Computer name - Each computer in the network has to have a unique name (15 characters). Not possible to have more computers with the same name in the network.
Workgroup - Name of a group or a domain valid for several computers
Computer Description - Detail description of the computer shown next the name when browsing in the network (user's name)

Access Control

Share-level access control - Sources security is based on the password. Access is granted for after having entered the password. Use in the Peer-to-Peer networks (Workgroup).

Result of the shared control setting

User-level access control- Security is based on server's name and password. Access is granted when the server confirms the user's name and password. Client/server (Domain) networks. Windows NT. Higher security than sharing level security, centralized control.
